Seabuckthorn Contains Lipids

Lipids provide the body with fuel; aid in the absorption of fat soluble vitamins, act as energy store houses within cells. Lipids provide protective padding for body structures and organs and serve as building blocks for all cell membranes.

Rich in Vitamin-C

Studies have proven that the vitamin C content of Seabuckthorn is 4 – 100 fold higher than many other fruits or vegetables ( Lu Rongsen, 2003)

Rich in Antioxidants

Seabuckthorn fruit and leaves have been found rich in antioxidants like superoxide dimutase enzyme, vitamin C, E, carotenoids and flavoniods. (Yang and Kallio 2002).

Deficiencies may appear in infants, or in people who take anticoagulants or antibiotic drugs. Vitamin K is called the coagulation vitamin and plays a catalytic role in forming of prothrombonin and hence it promotes normal coagulation of the blood during the injuries of blood vessels.

Rich Source of-Flavonoids

Seabuckthorn fruit and leaves are a very rich source of flavonoids. Flavonoids have been found to possess very strong antioxidant activity. It has been found that flavonoids improve the immunity of the body, lower the osmosis of the capillary wall and prevent oxidation of Vitamin C, control arterioscelerosis, reducing cholesterol level, turning hyperthyroidism into euthyroidism and eliminating inflammation. They have also been found effective against tumour and radiation damage. (In Mingyu et al 1998).

Anti Viral Activities of Seabuckthorn Leaf Extract

Seabuckthorn leaves have been found to have high content of polyphenols including tannins. A chemotherapeutic study of dry purified tannin fraction and individual components has revealed a high activity in respect to a wide spectrum of viruses : Influenza viruses/A (H1N1, H2N2,H13N6, H3N2) and B/Singapore/222/79, Herpes Simplex Viruses(HSV), Strain L2, Paramyxovirus infections, adenoviruses type 2, cytomegalo viruses and other viruses pathogenic for human beings and animals. (Shipulina 1999)

Hepato Protection

Hydrolyzable tannins of seabuckthorn have shown significant anti hepatotoxic action, inhibiting glutanic- pyruvic transaminase (Hikino et al 1985)

Seabuckthorn extract has considerable anti fat liver effects.

Polyphenolic Compounds of Seabuckthorn

Polyphenolic compounds of Seabuckthorn possess an anti oxidant activity. They inhibit the growth of tumors and exhibit a radioprotective action.

Wound Healing, Good Eyesight, Good Growth

Carotenoids improve the metabolic normalization and regenerates the injured tissues. Deficiency of Carotenoids in human foods leads to poor growth, weak eyesight, decreases intolerance to diseases and affects the mucus membrane of gastrointestinal tract.
Carotenoids are effective remedies against burn, frostbites, ulcers and various gynaecological problems. (Mashkovski 1997)

Carotenoids raise physical and physiological capacity to work in stress conditions.(Bogdanov et al 1986)

Cancers and Healthy Skin

Carotenoids are a major source of Vitamin A. Carotenoids particularly B-Carotene and Cantaxathine act as anti-carcinogen and anti-swelling, therefore safeguard from some kinds of skin cancers. (Kertangi etal 1984)

This is an antioxidant which is very good for growth and bone development and strengthens the immune system. It is useful in promoting healthy cell growth and essential for healthy eyes and skin.

Vitamin B1
Promotes growth, protects the heart muscle, stimulates the action of the brain, is important for the functioning of the nervous system, helps in digestion of carbohydrates.

Vitamin B2
Also known as Riboflavin. It is essential for general health and growth.

Vitamin B6
Also known as Pyridoxine. It works to produce energy from fats and proteins. Helps in the absorption of Vitamin B12. Important for healthy function of brain and nervous system.
Without the range of B Vitamins the human body cannot convert fuel to energy and our skin and hair would deteriorate. If you are lacking energy you could possibly be lacking enough of the B Vitamins which because they are water soluble are required every day. They don’t store in the body to fill any deficiencies that may occur. Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, and pantothenic acid, serve as coenzymes to the enzymes that release energy from carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B6 assists enzymes that metabolize amino acids.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 has been shown to reduce homocysteine levels as has vitamin B6. Supplementation of these vitamins to augment low dietary intakes of folic acid B6 and B12 offers a convenient way to ensure that optimal intakes of these vitamins are achieved while offering an economical means to ensure optimalcardio vascular health maintainence and reduction of neural tube defects bduring pregnancy.

Vitamin C
This is a water soluble vitamin also known as ascorbic acid, and functions as an antioxidant. It is essential to prevent Scurvy.

Vitamin D
Promotes normal bone and teeth formation by ensuring the active absorption of calcium and phosphorus. Sunshine is also a major source of Vitamin D.

Vitamin E
This is an essential nutrient that functions as an antioxidant in the human body. Vitamin E enhances immune response and regulates platelet aggregation.

Vitamin K
This is called the coagulation Vitamin. It is required to make a substance called prothrombin which is then converted to thrombin. Thrombin in turn converts fibrinogen to fibrin which then creates the blood clot.Antioxidants
The process that causes a nail to rust or even a chopped apple to turn brown is called oxidation. It is the same process that occurs in ones body with each breath one takes.
When free radicals attack, the result can vary from a small boil to a mighty cancer or from a slight irritation to asthma or some lifelong allergic disorder. As free radicals hit the tiny drops of LDL (Low density Lipo Proteins) cholesterol in your blood it is oxidized. The cholesterol turns sticky and attaches to rough spots on the walls of arteries causing them to block and cause heart attack if unchecked.
